Setel Now Enables Mesra Points Redemption for Fuel

Setel – Malaysia’s first e-payment solution for fuel payment directly from mobile devices – continues to deliver next level convenience to customers with the introduction of Mesra points fuel redemption from the mobile application.

Setel enables a seamless, end-to-end experience that focuses on providing ease for fuel purchases through a customised solution designed to integrate directly from the mobile device to the fuel pumps. The increased functionality on Setel is the next step in integrating aspects of the refuelling process onto a single platform to provide a new and convenient experience at PETRONAS stations.

“Given the popularity of the Mesra loyalty programme, this new feature is set to strengthen Setel’s position as a provider of the retail on-the-go experience. Paying for fuel and redeeming loyalty benefits have never been easier,” said Iskandar Ezzahuddin, Chief Executive Officer of Setel.

To start redeeming Mesra points, customers must link their Mesra card and activate it on Setel. Customers can redeem RM1 for every 100 points, which will be credited directly to their Setel wallet balance and can be used to purchase fuel immediately. In addition, customers also have the flexibility to choose the number of Mesra points they want to convert into credits for fuel redemption, anytime, anywhere.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir said, “The integration of Setel and Mesra on a single platform represents another milestone for PETRONAS in understanding the customer journey and moving like never before to provide a seamless and frictionless experience. As PDB continues to grow its retail network, new features play a vital role in generating appeal for customers by offering the most convenient fuel payment system and loyalty points redemption in the fuel retail industry.”

PETRONAS customers, who are Mesra members, receive three points for every litre of fuel purchased, which is the highest conversion rates for fuel loyalty programmes in Malaysia. For example, a fuel purchase of 50 litres (RM2.08/litre) will give the user 150 Mesra points, which can be converted into RM1.50 worth of fuel.

Setel is available for free on iOS and Android via the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Currently, Setel can be used at 277 PETRONAS stations within the Klang Valley.
