Kuala Lumpur, 24th April 2020 – BMW Malaysia today introduced the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport, the newest member to the premium automaker’s portfolio of luxury vehicles at its first ever virtual unveiling in Malaysia on https://shop.bmw.com.my.

Featuring a dynamic silhouette with four doors, a long wheelbase and a coupé-style roofline flowing effortlessly into the sloping rear, this coupé is the most luxurious BMW has ever built.

As the most luxurious sports coupé BMW has ever built, the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport elegantly features a silhouette that is powerfully defined and dynamically extended – making it an unmistakable member of the BMW 8 Series.
The iconic kidney grille is complemented by a widened frame that emphasises the vehicle’s low centre of gravity, while the large M Sport air intakes and BMW laser headlight with high-beam assistant – the most slender headlight of all BMW models – provide clear definition to the frontal appearance of the vehicle. The coupé also features the BMW M Aerodynamic kit, in addition to the standard BMW M Sport package.
A Gran Turismo feel is evoked via the roofline’s flowing transition into the rear of the sports coupé, while the BMW Hofmeister kink maximises the visual impact of the C-pillar and its fin design. Frameless side windows further accentuate the fluidity of the sports coupé. Towards the rear, full-LED taillights are offered with the stylised L-shape and smoked glass cover, along with horizontal lines along the rear to underline the vehicle’s width. Exhaust tailpipes flank the M Sport package diffuser.
The wheelbase of the coupé has been increased by around 20 centimetres, allowing space for two additional – equally frameless – doors and an interior ambience completely unmatched by any previous BMW sports coupé. The coupé also offers 20-inch light alloy wheels in the Y-spoke style 728 M Bicolour with mixed tyres and runflat tyres.
Powering the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is a formidable three-litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo engine that is new to the BMW 8 Series and is capable of generating a top speed of 250 km/h. The coupé outputs 250 kw / 340 hp at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm with a peak torque of 500 Nm at 1,600 – 4,500 rpm. The century sprint is achieved in only 5.2 seconds – fastest in its segment, with a combined fuel consumption of 7.9 l/100km and combined carbon output of 180 g/km.
Attuned to the award-winning advanced eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheels, the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport excels with a wide range of gear ratios and very short shift times. The coupé’s engine is also combined with the BNW sDrive rear-wheel-drive system, while the sport exhaust system emanates unmistakeably powerful acoustics.
Excellent driving dynamics is offered to the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport via the BMW motor racing DNA that guarantees best-in-class handling as well as high-level agility and lateral dynamics. The chassis components also ensure ideal conditions for a comfortable ride. The First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport owes its extraordinary driving characteristics to a low centre of gravity, an extremely stiff body and chassis as well as high-tech suspension components largely taken off the M shelves, such as the M Sport differential on the rear axle for maximum traction, the Integral Active Steering for more directional stability and Adaptive Suspension with electronically-controlled dampers.
The luxurious silhouette of the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport is complemented with an equally stunning interior that conveys an allure typical of a sports coupé. With the wheelbase extended by a good 20 centimetres, rear passengers can enjoy a sense of space unparalleled in other BMW coupés by far. The panoramic glass roof creates a light, airy ambience which makes the four-door coupé feel even more spacious. Other highly-anticipated features include the M Leather steering wheel and ‘CraftedClarity’ glass application in the interior elements.
The coupé is also furnished with a full-leather dashboard, electric sports seats with integrated headrests and active seat ventilation for both the driver and front passenger, as well as rear seats with a moulded single-seat appearance. Ambient lighting with adjustable brightness and colour spectrum helps set the mood for the drive, while the four-zone automatic air conditioning makes it a comfortable one. Roller sunblinds are also available as standard. The further expanded luggage space now offers 440 litres of luggage capacity when rear seat backrests are folded with a 40/20/40 split.
Digital services are offered via the BMW Live Cockpit Professional combined with the Head-Up Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant for smoother vehicle operation. The natural voice interaction via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, intuitive operation via the iDrive Controller, touchscreen feature and BMW Gesture Control also provide additional safety and convenience to both driver and passenger.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes a 12.3-inch, customisable instrument cluster and combines it with the large (10.25-inch) touchscreen Control Display. The latest-generation infotainment system based on BMW Operating System 7.0 excels with a clean layout as well as customisable and personalised displays.
Latest in driving assistance systems also equip the First-Ever BMW 840i Gran Coupé M Sport under the BMW Personal CoPilot umbrella. These features include the Driving Assistant Professional which comes with the Cross-traffic Warning at the rear and Lane Change Warning.
