Powerful propulsion with a newly-reengineered engine.

Powering the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR is the further developed two-cylinder in-line engine that was first introduced in 2018 with the BMW F 850 GS; now with 77 kW (105 hp) at 8,750 rpm, and 92 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine also offers more than 87 Nm torque in the relevant lower speed range from 4,500 to 8,500 rpm. The increase in performance and the fuller torque are achieved by increasing the capacity to 895 cc (previously 853 cc) by enlarging the cylinder bore.

With a compression of 13.1:1, a crankshaft with 90-degree offset crankpins and an ignition distance of 270/450 degrees – plus a new underfloor silencer system, the engine propels forward with a particularly emotional sound. A higher level of running smoothness is also offered with the two opposed counterweight shafts in front of and behind the crankshaft.

In addition to the standard anti-hopping clutch, the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR can be equipped with engine drag torque control (MSR) for the first time. The Shift Assistant Pro is also offered as an optional extra for the new motorcycles, enabling the 6-speed transmission to be shifted up and down quickly without clutch actuation.

Both motorcycles are equipped with two standard riding modes, “Rain” and “Road” to enable rider adaptability. Automatic Stability Control (ASC) which can be easily disengaged is also available as standard. “Riding Modes Pro” is available an ex works option, offering additional riding modes such as “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”, along with the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), banking-capable ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the new engine drag torque control (MSR).
