With a focus on enhancing driver support, improving service quality, and advancing sustainable mobility solutions, inDrive is set to further solidify its presence in Malaysia’s growing urban transport landscape.
Over the past year, inDrive has experienced notable progress in Malaysia, continuing its upward trajectory in the highly competitive ride-hailing market. As of August 2024, inDrive recorded a 53.7% increase in rides, a 56.1% surge in active users, and a 36.1% rise in active drivers. This marks a significant acceleration compared to its cumulative growth from in 2022 and 2023, when rides grew by 21.6%, users by 16.8%, and drivers by 23.3%. This momentum reflects the platform’s growing acceptance among Malaysian passengers and drivers who value a more transparent and user-driven ride-hailing experience. On a global scale, inDrive has achieved a major milestone of 5 billion completed deals and now operates in 888 cities across 48 countries.

With the global ride-hailing market projected to grow, the sector is witnessing steady expansion driven by urbanization, evolving consumer behaviors, and advancements in mobility technology. Southeast Asia remains a key region for growth, with the ride-hailing market projected to generate USD 9.41 billion (RM 41.6 billion) by 2025, growing at a 5.21% CAGR through 2029. In Malaysia, the industry is forecasted to reach USD 0.51 billion (RM 2.2 billion) in revenue by 2025, with a 2.82% CAGR through 2029, reflecting the sustained demand for accessible, efficient, and affordable transport solutions.
To support this growth, inDrive plans to strengthen its existing presence in Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru by establishing mini driver support centers in key cities such as Penang and Johor Bahru, providing localized assistance, training, and improved service accessibility for drivers. By enhancing driver support, improving earning opportunities, and fostering stronger collaborations with driver associations, inDrive expects to exceed 40,000 registered drivers in Malaysia by the end of 2025.
As ride-hailing services expand, the conversation around gig worker welfare has gained traction across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. With increasing discussions on driver rights, fair compensation, and benefits, platforms are being encouraged to provide better security for e-hailing drivers. inDrive is working towards enhancing insurance coverage and strengthening collaborations with driver and taxi associations, advocating for better support structures for drivers.
Another major shift in the industry is the push toward sustainability and green mobility. As government and private sector stakeholders push for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, hybrid fleet integration, and carbon reduction initiatives, inDrive is exploring partnerships with EV manufacturers to develop more sustainable transport solutions, aligning with regulatory efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
